About FPISC

The ‘Future Physicist International Summer Camp’ (FPISC) is organized by University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), which holds a leading position in various research fields worldwide. The camp will provide an exceptional opportunity to combine high-quality learning, hands-on research experience, with an unforgettable summer experience. Selected international and Chinese students can immerse themselves in a multicultural environment, communicate, work and learn from each other. FPISC has been organized every summer since 2013, and will be hold offline 2023. Some details in plan are as follows:


Agenda: The camp will span about 2 weeks, starting from the middle of July 2023. Detailed program will be specified and announced later. Please Check History for previous year’s program for reference”. Briefly, it consists a series of lectures and hands-on sections on cutting-edge research fields, covering quantum information and technology, atomic and molecular physics, materials science and condensed matter physics, accelerator and synchrotron radiation application, plasma and magnetic confinement fusion, astronomy and particle physics, together with tours to historical or natural attractions inside China and multicultural events.


Benefits: The camp is targeted for undergrads above the freshman level from prominent international and domestic universities, and will admit about 40 students. Once admitted, each student will get a scholarship up to a maximum amount of 2,000 US dollars (varying according to actual expenses) to cover the round-trip flight tickets. Additionally, boarding cost during the camp will be covered by USTC.


Admission: Full-time sophomores, juniors, or seniors are welcome to apply for the camp. Applicants should fill out online application and upload an official transcript at registration page . Applications must be received by April 10th, 2023. The organizing committee will make decisions and notify the applicants on April 15th.


Extension: Based on their performance and research interest, students can apply for an extension for one to two more months to immerse themselves into a certain research group to conduct a specific project. If selected, students will receive additional support throughout their stay (including financial support, room and board etc.), and will be honored two credits and/or an internship certificate after passing a defense.
